Golf Swing Drills Stopped me Giving Up

Hi Lewis here,

This blog is all about how basic golf swing drills changed my game around, and how I found an invaluable golf resource to dramatically improve my game.

CLICK HERE TO SEE WHAT HELPED MY GOLF GAME

I started playing golf a couple of years back just for fun, but I must admit my average was always pretty high, and I always felt a bit embarrassed playing with my colleagues who have been playing for longer. Putting was never the issue, but my golf swing was a bit erratic, to say the least.

I listened to advice, and golf tips here and there, and practiced at the driving range, attempting to learn to hit the ball longer and straight and cure the golf slice. Just when I thought I had the perfect golf swing, I would take it out on to the course, and it would all go to pot. The golf slice was a familiar sight when I was playing. My friend’s eyes would raise and they would sigh, as they thought “we’re in for a long game here!”

Playing golf was coming a little bit frustrating, for my friends as well as me. Golf is meant to be a fun game, so if you are struggling, or staying on the same handicap, it can take the fun out of the game. So I decided, rather than hang up my clubs, I would see what golf resources I could find, to refine my game, and at least give me the opportunity to make a game of it with my mates

That is when I discovered “The Simple Golf Swing”. This really did change my fortunes round, and seemed to fit my exact needs. I didn’t want to be Tiger Woods, I just wanted to be able to hit a decent shot, consistently.

It was the Golf Swing Drills that did it!

The Simple Golf Swing is aimed specifically at beginners, and average players, and aims to dramatically improve their scores. Just my simple changes to things like my grip, or the way I addressed the ball, and most crucially practicing simple basic Golf Swing Drills my shots became more consistent. I took this down to the driving range, and sure enough, the shots I was hitting seemed to be far sweeter, and just go further with less effort.

However, the big test was – would this translate to the golf course?

Well, yes – because of the golf swing drills, and their repetition, when I approached the ball on the first tee, it seemed far more instinctive. I hit that ball far and straight, and the sense of satisfaction was immense. And so it continued around the course.  Yes, there were a few dodgy moments here and there, but my overall score improved dramatically. Did I beat my friend that day? No, but there was only ONE shot in it, the closest it had ever been. And I have beaten him since.

Golf Swing Drills can work for you!

Look, this may not work for you, but the whole course really resonated with me. Will you end up as good as Lee Westwood or Tiger? Probably not! But will it improve your game dramatically? Yes – if my results are anything to go by.

Using Golf Swing Drills for a Better Game

Golf Swing Drills for Better Golf

For those that love the game of golf they know that the two most important parts of the game are your stance and your swing. Most golfers spend a lot of time working on their swing, and searching for drills that will help them improve golf swing. One thing you need to do is to work on all of your swings, from tee shots, to shooting out of a sand trap. You will need to make small swing adjustments to be an effective golfer. There are golf swing drills that can help you work on your swing no matter what club you are using and what situation you are golfing from.

The first drill is a drill designed to help you drive the ball straighter. The first thing to be discussed is the use of power. Many golfers will attempt to get a longer drive by swinging harder. Making a smooth accurate swing will give you more accuracy and longer drives than trying to “kill” the ball. For this drill, you will need to set up a tee and pick a close target or set up a target. Lay a club on the ground in-line with the tee and the target. Get your stance and hit the ball, concentrate on keeping your club swinging perfectly over the club on the ground. You will now want to check where your ball hit the target, keep this drill going until you are scoring bull’s-eyes and your club swings directly over the targeting club.

When driving many golfers tend to let their left knee drop on the backswing, holding a basketball between your knees while practicing your swing can alleviate this problem quickly. Adding weights to your club while practicing any type of swing can help you feel the strike better. This will allow you to make any necessary adjustments. If you feel any wrist movement this needs to be addressed before anything else. Moving your wrist during any swing will throw off your power and accuracy. This drill can also be done by wrapping a towel around the end of your club if you cannot find golf weights for your clubs.

A good drill for practicing sand and bunker shots is to set the ball into the sand. Choose your aim point and then draw a perpendicular line one inch behind the ball. Now draw a matching line three to four inches behind the ball. Now aim the club to hit in the sand between the two lines, do not aim to hit the ball. The sand that is displaced will allow the ball to make contact with the club and shoot the ball out of the trap towards the hole. These are just a few of the various drills that you can perform to improve golf swing. You can try many others. You can decide which ones work the best for you and your game. Have no doubt though that finding good swing drills and practising them regularly will help improve your golf swing and your overall game.

The Secret to Releasing The Club Head For The Perfect Golf Swing

07 September, 20:15, by lordkensal Tags:

One of the key aspects of the perfect golf swing, and something it is worth looking for golf swing drills to perfect, is when to release the club head. So what is releasing the club head all about?

Releasing the club just means, after the back swing, when we swing it forward and literally let it go (i.e. swing in front of us). That is fine and simple. But the main problem people have is WHEN. When should you release the club?

Normally when we swing the club back – we are taught to hold it there for a moment, before we swing the club forward and release the club head. But this can have it’s problems, as we tend to build up tension when we are holding the club back, and the club face doesn’t turn in time, this means we can slice or add side spin to the ball.

So here are some basic golf swing drills to practice to make sure you are releasing the club head at the right time.

(see the video).

You need to practice in front of a mirror initially, so you can really see what it is you are doing. I’d watch the video a couple of times, to really get an idea of what to do. But make this part of your golf swing drills.

The Basic Golf Swing by the Legend Jack Nicklaus

If you are going to perfect golf swing, then who better than Jack Nicklaus. I found this great video, where Nicklaus underlines that, at the end of the day, all you need is a basic golf swing.

You do not have to learn a different golf swing for every type of shot you might come up against on the course. All golf swings are basically the same, in terms of the following 4 key aspects are identical.

The Grip

The Aim

The Ball Position

Basic Swing Arc and Plain

Get that right, and everything else will follow. Simple golf swing drills can help achieve this.

Obviously that a slight variables or different clubs, but getting bogged down by different swings can hold you back. Perfect the one basic swing, and this will help cure golf slice, improve your game and make you a better golfer.

Nicklaus demonstrates this by applying this ONE GOLF SWING principle to four different club shots:

The Driver

The 2-iron

The 5-iron

The 9-iron

You will notice that the rhythm, the approach, the golf swing, the arc and plain of the swing is the same. The only thing that varies is the stance, and the distance of the ball, and the length of the swing – which is as a result of shaft length.

Eveything else is the same – and this is a key fundamental in how to learn to play the game of golf. So if you can find golf swing drills that perfect these key aspects of a basic golf swing – you will see a massive improvement in your game

Ensuring The Correct Golf Swing

24 August, 18:43, by lordkensal Tags:

When perfecting golf swing there are some crucial tips to bear in mind. Here is an analysis of someone’s golf swing. Looking at the zone, which is a triangle from the ball with one plane passing through your belt buckle and the other your neck. This is the crucial zone. On the left is professional golfer Adam Scott at the British Open, and on the right is the amateur who is being analyzed

Crucially the key areas to consider are as follows:

Make sure when the golf club swings back, it remains in the triangle zone, and not to far back. If you have the club stuck behind you on the back swing, then it is hard to get the down swing correct. It is important to keep the golf club in front of your body.

This can be improved with good golf swing drills.

Check out the analysis of the swing and see how it compared with your current swing. It is the little teaks like these that can make all the difference.

Enjoy.

Master The Golf Course With Golf Swing Drills

Whether you are perfecting your golf swing drills, or improving your putting, one of the best ways to improve your golf scores is to master the golf course. So what do I mean by “master the golf course”? Every hole is different, and it often means trying to master so many different types of golf shot, that you end up not mastering any of them. If you are a beginner, and want to get round the golf course, without embarrassing yourself, the quickest way to achieve this is by mastering one particular shot.

Every hole on the golf course can be broken down into sections. You should try to perfect your golf swing to hit the perfect 150 yard shot, every time. Using golf swing drills, you can put your energies into making sure that you can hit a ball 150 yards, just where you want, every time you play.

If you break the hole down into 150 yard sections, you will find that you can easily land on the green all the time. Rather than try to hit a glorious and ambitious 400 yard tee shot, only to get a nasty golf slice and end up in the rough, do not try and bite off more than you can chew.

Mastering the perfect golf swing required to land a 150 yard shot every time is easily achieved if you apply the right golf swing drills.

If you have confidence in yourself that you will hit a sweet 150 yard shot any time you need to, you can easily make the green in a couple of shots. When teeing off, do not attempt to land on the green if it is just too far, look to getting the ball to within 150 yards. With the 150 yard golf swing perfected, you will know that you can confidently land the ball on the green. After all, at 150 yards away, the green is a bit target to aim for.

You can set up your game around the perfected golf shot, and on the basis that most courses have holes that are around a par 4, or 400 yards, getting on the green in 2 or 3 shots, accurately, should not be difficult, when you know that in your back pocket you have the perfect golf swing for a 150 yard shot.

The beauty of this is that even if you do get yourself into all sorts of problems after teeing off, you now know that you can get out of the problem. Breaking down each hole into manageable chunks will result in improved averages. You will also reduce the amount of times you end up in the rough or in the bunker. So you will not have to rely on the mastery of lots and lots of different golf shots.

With your perfected golf swing, your averages will improve, and you can then start on mastering another common shot that is key to your game. This way, you slowly build up your arsenal of golfing shots, and your game will continue to improve. Small changes and small steps can have a big impact on your overall golf score averages, and make the game a lot less frustrating.

The Simple Golf Swing

Simple Golf Swing DrillsThey say the simple things in life make all the difference. And so it is with a Simple Golf Swing. I hope this salutatory tale of a beginner’s golf story strikes a chord.

When I first started playing golf a few years ago, I seemed to plateau fairly quickly, and seemed to be stuck at the same level for quite a while. My handicap remained high and unchanged, and my averages were pretty poor. Like most things in life if you plateau early, you can be disillusioned. The weird thing was, on the driving range, I seemed to do okay, although the consistency was somewhat erratic. After all, I had read manuals, and was given a few lessons with a pro, as a birthday present.

However, it all seemed to fall apart when I hit the course. Right from a fat golf shot on the tee, or a nasty golf slice on the fairway. My consistency was non-existent, and the frustration and pressure I put on myself built, and this only went to destroy my game even more. I even tried to tee off with six iron, rather than a driver, but I was still losing balls left, right and centre.

So, as with most things in life, I looked to the internet to find a solution. The pro had taught me some great golf swing drills, and on the driving range they all came together great, but I was still a bit shaky when playing a full 18 holes. Forums are a great place to find solutions, and after visiting a few golf forums, one system kept being mentioned – The Simple Golf Swing.

Check out the Simple Golf Swing Here

The whole beauty of the Simple Golf Swing is that it is aimed specifically at beginners, or those with just an average golf game. Its core aim is to get beginners and so-so golf players to a below eighty average. With promises of straighter hitting, accuracy and distance. Yes, yes, yes – everything I seemed to be craving. So I bought it there and then.

There is loads to take in, but I read and studied as much as I could, ready to take it to the driving range. Rome was not built in a day, so I broke down some key elements I could change to get immediate benefits. There were the following:

1 – Fixing My Grip

2 – Perfecting The Swing

3 – Hitting the Ball Straighter

The Simple Golf Swing offers great advice and tips on these elements, and with simple changes, I saw big results … on the driving range. The real test was could I carry it out on the golf course.

Well, I stood up at the first tee, the golf drills in my head, and I addressed the ball. Thwack!! It was hit so sweetly, straight, accurate and further than I had hit before on that course. Beginners luck? Maybe, but as I progressed through the holes, I was seeing consistency in my game that I have never had. I hit my best rough ever, just over eighty.

Look, I will not be challenging Tiger Woods any moment soon, but I am enjoying my game a lot more. I have continued to improve, but the basic principles of keeping it simple had helped me improved. I still strive for the perfect golf swing every time, and I am always looking for useful golf swing drills to improve my game. But it was the Simple Golf Swing that prevented me from giving up golf.

All I can say is that is worked for me, so who knows, if any of this story resonates with you, then maybe it can work for you as well.

Tiger Woods and Golf Swing Drills

You can learn a lot about technique and how to maximise your golf swing drills training by looking at the Pros.  Tiger Woods is a great exponent of the “perfect swing” and watching him in slow motion shows you exactly what parts of the body you need to keep still, and what should be moving. Moving your heads, or swinging at the hips, can cause you to slice the ball.

If you want to acheive the perfect golf swing, then take a look at this great video of Tiger Woods performing a Rotary Golf Swing Drill that is known as the Tie Drill. This is where you imagine you are wearing a tie, and it is pointing straightdown at the ground just to the right of the ball as you look down, but in line with your knee (assuming your right handed) . This is great for when using an iron. For a drive you will probably need more movement in order to get the length.

In this super slow motion of Tiger Wood’s golf drive, you can see there is more movemnt in his body as he attempts to drive the ball further. Still the head remains incredibly still. Tiger shows great form, and it is well worth studying closer, to see what you need to be incorporating into your golf swing drills, to get the most out of them. Technique is everything with golf, and Tiger Woods demonstartes good technique in the golf swing in bucket loads.

Any decent drill should be enhancing your overall approach and improving your consistency. Watching the pros play can give you great tips on how to hit the ball well, and how you should be standing.
